Fireplace & Chimney Repair in New York City

Fireplace Safety

Your safety is a major concern. All too often we read about fireplace-related tragedies that could have been prevented. Whether it is a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning, with a some basic knowledge and minimal precautions, we can take steps to avert a disaster. Here's what you should do:

  1. Have your fireplace and chimney inspected and cleaned by a licensed professional.

  2. Insure adequate air flow to the firebox to reduce creosote (a sticky, odorous, corrosive and highly flammable by product of wood burning) from accumulating in the firebox and chimney.
  3. Always use a fire screen in order to reduce the chances of burning material from escaping.
  4. Never use lighter fluid, gasoline, diesel oil or any other flammable liquid to start the fire. Use a product like duraflame instead.
  5. Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house.
  6. Never leave the fire unattended.
  7. Never dispose of recent or still-burning embers. Leave them in the firebox or soak them thoroughly before disposing of them.

Engineering, Design, and Construction:

Stonekraftz works with licensed professional engineers and registered architects during the design phase and pre-construction stages of the project to insure that the fireplace and chimney are installed in accordance with relevant sections of the NYC Department of Building codes. If required, we provide technical drawings, permits, and the engineer's stamp of approval on the final construction

Fireplace Restoration and Chimney Repair:

We rebuild or replace firebox; damper replacement; pointing or tucking of chimney and firebox brickwork; liner replacement or installation; cap and crown replacement; ventilation or drafting problems which could present fire or carbon monoxide hazards; roof lashing repair or replacement; or any repairs associated with the chimney and fireplace system.

We specialize in Chimeny Cap and Crown Repair or Replacement:

The water-tight integrity of the cap and crown are of vital importance. It is also essential that the design provide a sound strategy for preventing rodents, birds, insects and other pests from creating a nest in the chimney and compromising the system.

Fireplace and Firebox Brickwork:

We re-point and rebuilt damaged or deteriorating chimney brickwork to insure safe and proper operation in accordance with all local, state, and federal codes. We also repair or replace deteriorated masonry along the exterior facing as well as heat-worn masonry in the interior firebox.

Chimney Lining:

Although many older chimneys were designed without a stainless steel flue, it is recommended that when refurbished or rebuilt, one be installed. Stonekraftz experienced team of specialists will install it and guarantee it for life.

Waterproofing:

Stonekraftz applies ChimneySaver along the exterior surface of the chimney. This substance provides a protective coating that, not only resists moisture, but helps extend the life of the chimney by making it less susceptible to cracking caused by freezing and thawing. A cooper flashing will also be installed to provide a waterproof barrier where the chimney meets the roof. Many of our competitors are cutting costs by not providing this service; however, Stonekraftz provides them on all installations.
